Commercial Metals Company To Acquire Certain U.S. Rebar Assets From Gerdau

IRVING, Texas, Jan. 2, 2018 -- Commercial Metals Company (NYSE: CMC), today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire certain U.S. rebar steel mill and fabrication assets from Gerdau S.A. (NYSE: GGB), a producer of long and specialty steel products in the Americas for a cash purchase price of $600 million, subject to customary purchase price adjustments.
The acquisition includes 33 rebar fabrication facilities in the United States, as well as steel mills located in Knoxville, Tennessee; Jacksonville, Florida; Sayreville, New Jersey and Rancho Cucamonga, California, with annual mill rolling capacity of 2.5 million tons.
Upon completion of the acquisition, CMC will have an expanded geographic footprint in the largest construction regions in the U.S. The acquisition will increase CMC's annual rebar and fabrication capacity and allow for the more efficient utilization of its asset base to better serve customers. ASC18 Competition Timeline Released, Setting the Stage for AI Computing Challenge

FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 27, 2017 -- The 2018 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC18) has released its competition timeline (official website: http://www.asc-events.org/ASC18/index.php), with a starting date set for January 16, 2018. Making the announcement, the ASC18 organizers also promised that the upcoming competition would include a well-known AI application in one of its challenges, a tantalizing clue to the dozens of entrants from China, America, Europe and around the world who are expected to attend.
The timeline sets January 15, 2018, as the deadline for registration, before which all entrants must submit an application on the ASC website.
